Will Seo And Pagerank Help? ?

I opened my site on January 2nd and I’ve been making improvements and all kinds of stuff ever sense. This is my first website and I’m new to all of this so I had no idea about seo when I opened it so the domain name isn’t so good for people searching….
Its not an authority site or anything, there are no products or ads I’m trying to sell or promote. Its called your two cents worth and the idea is that people submit their advice and we post it up for the world to see.
so far almost all the views have been generated by me personally or by my close friends so like 75% direct traffic and like 25% referring sites from the sites Facebook page and twitter page.
Will building back links help? And is a pagerank of 0 normal this early in a websites life? It sounds like that means google doesnt know my site is there. I have like 13 indexed pages at google but no google backlinks.

I have been working on a website for 5 weeks now, and have been targeting few keywords and phrases to rank well on google, but still am not getting any result. I have done social bookmarking on well known sites like digg delicious, and also have posted my links on classifieds that are powered by wordpress, but still no luck.
Please can someone tell me what should I do and where to post my links to improve the rankings?

I have some keywords picked out that appear to have little competition currently so now what do I have to do to rank in top 10ish for them?
I am very confused why keywords like “cheap clothes online” (without quotes) returns forever21.om as number 3 result(i get that is popular but nothing indicates they target that keyword) they are also very high for lots of other terms which I dont see in their title or description and every anchor text to their site I viewed (I only view about 100 out or their 2100) their inbond links said “forever21.com” not really targeting keywords (should mention I used google to search them)
can anyone suggest how I can improve my keyword search ranking.. and the hardest part is my website is mostly a one page app that uses ajax to refresh everything which makes it awesome for users to find things better than most websites.. but maybe that prevents me from higher search engine rankings
